About the Artist

Tyana Jasmyn Hancock is a Florida based artist. Her current body of work explores 3D mixed media, using everything from acrylics, clays, metals, fabrics, and found objects. A life long lover of nature, she transforms discarded materials into deeply conceptual sculptures. Her themes often center on insects- playful on the surface, yet underpinned by commentary on industrialization, toxic beauty, and the historical and environmental consequences of human progress. Influenced by 19th century fashion and chemistry, her work reveals a haunting parallel between the past and todays unseen societal hazards. Her work reflects the loss of biodiversity, replacing native flora and fauna with invasive species. Through her art she advocates permaculture and stewardship of the land.
